Response vs. Reaction

Was going through my portable hard disk and found this article I wrote on Christmas of 2013, my first Christmas in the USA, but must have never published it. Here it goes! Am writing an article after a long time on a topic a friend suggested me to.   At least I hope she remains one after reading this. As per a rough definition of the above words, Response is something which you give after logically assessing the question/ statement. It is a decision not taken in haste and is correct choice in most of the cases. Reaction on the other hand, is as you may know, the opposite of action. You may also state it as the antithesis of Action. The question which comes to my mind is which one is better? And if there is no clear winner, what conditions determine the option to take? As my very dear friend stated, reaction occurs in those cases when you are either surprised/shocked at the news you hear. A surprise or shock may occur if the news is devastating or it comes from a

Loneliness vs being alone

This is an imaginary conversation inside the head of the protagonist with a person he believes to be his friend. “You sound alone.” “I’m not alone. I have family and some friends. Nope, not alone. Maybe, um…lonely.” “What are you doing about it?” “Nothing at all. I try to paint my face with a fake smile and put a peppiness in my voice, making others and myself believe that I’m fine. But today when I was staring at the mirror, the person staring back was not me. Empty might justify. He had lost what he always cherished—company.” “What happened?” “I don’t know…it happened too fast, yet too slow. I can’t put it in words. I was happy and blessed. I used to enjoy stuff, drinking coffee, reading everything under the sun, listening to music, talking to people. Eventually, every one of those things stopped. I started to change, staying alone deliberately. There was just one person I needed to be with, but that seemed almost impossible. I started liking it and hating it with the same intensity

Speak before you think or think before you say

In India, parents often scold their children "Think before you speak".  As a child, it is not just difficult to understand what this statement entails, but also why is it needed. When the child grows up and becomes a teenager, this statement changes to "You have grown up, at least think now before speaking anything". But, views like these get lost in the teenage mood swings as well as the 'Heck if I care' attitude. As the same teenager approaches youth, he/she actually gets this statement from his/her own mind. The only reason why he/she fails to focus on it is the thought " I'm a part of the new generation. I'm so intelligent that intelligent words automatically come out of my mouth". Then, comes a life-altering moment when the concerned person, now well into the corporate world, utters something which is commonly known as a faux pas.    He doesn't get anything more than a glare from his supervisors at the time, but slo

A journey by the misty greens Part 2/2

The 2nd part of this post should have been written long back, but due to several reasons , I couldn't. So, here it is today. This trip was just supposed to be a journey from 1 place to another but instead, taught me a number of things. The most interesting being, the number of hues and shades of the color green available in nature itself. Earlier, I used to think that it could only be seen in Ms Paint. My body was stuck inside the sealed windows. But, my mind and soul were roaming outside. I was one with the mountains, the valleys, the impromptu waterfalls, and the white mist. It was a wonderful scene. The waterfall trickling through the crevices of the mountains reaches the ground with a huge force. And in response, the Earth gives rise to an awesome looking mist like smoke. Entire mountains, hidden by this mist, in a place , only an hour away from my home. And I never visited them. I am going to regret missing them for so long. Watching them is a pleasure , not only for one

A journey by the misty greens Part 1/2

On the 7th of this month, at 4:25 pm, I found myself standing on Platform no. 3 of Chinchwad station. Looking ahead, I saw the 1030 Kolhapur Mumbai Koyna Exress chugging in. I got into the train in the AC compartment. I was going to my relatives in Thane for  a week. This was my first holiday in a long long time. Sp, I had planned to enjoy it to the most. However, this being the month of July, the monsoon was upon us and it was showering everywhere. The train journey I took was going to pass through a very scenic route. It would pass through small towns as well as the popular twin hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala. My entire 3 hour odd journey was spent looking out, of the AC bogie’s tinted window. My eyes marveled at nature’s beauty. It was something that we miss in the hustle and bustle of our busy city life. The best part of the journey started after I passed Lonavala(sandwich anyone ?) and the Sahyadri ghats came into view. They ended at a station Karjat, renown for anoth

Last unit test of my engineering life!

Hi friends, I intended to post 1 blog post everyday. but I forgot. It's already 12:40 in the night. However, i am gonna post one now. The college where I study, Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering, Tathawade Pune. Now, this college has a stupid tradition of conducting 2 unit tests in each semester. We students used to give the tests seriously for 3 and a half years. But now since we are in the final semester of engineering and have already got placed in our dream companies, studying for these tests seems a waste of time to us. Till this night, we gave the 1st 2 papers somehow, not knowing whether we will pass or not. Tomorrow, we have the next 2 papers and I have not studied a bit until now. Plan to study in the morning. Today, a friend of mine updated her status message as the following " All my classmates, I'll miss u a lot ". This brought tears into my eyes and I realized the importance that my college friends have played in my li

An article after a long time- Another movie review

I am blogging after a long long time. Don't know why I stopped but here I am. Hello friends, Yesterday I saw the movie Julie and Julia. It is about two women Julie Powell and Julia Child. Julia Child is a cook and a writer of a book about French cooking. Julie Powell is a 30 year old woman living in the USA who has nothing passionate to do. One day, she discovers Julia's book on cooking and decides to give herself a challenge - to cook through and blog about all the recipes in the cookbook. The time period she gives herself is one year and she completes her goal by her deadline. Moral of the story: 1. Whatever you do, do it with some passion. If you don't have the passion, then you won't do it as you should. 2. The second one is for me, I pledge to write one blog post every day.(Conditions Apply) Let me see for how long can I keep my pledge. P.S: To all the readers of this blog, please suggest to me the topics that you would like me to write about. Till then , signing o
